Several Pakistan cities in the eastern Punjab province, including Faisalabad, Multan and Bahawalpur, were without gas supplies on Thursday when a bomb ruptured a supply pipeline. No one claimed responsibility but the authorities suspect local tribesmen who have attacked gas fields and security forces in a campaign for increased royalty payments from natural resources that are extracted from their territories. CNSNews.com has reported that a Republican congressman has introduced a measure that calls for the separation of the Federal Emergency Management Agency from the Department of Homeland Security. Rep. Mark Foley (R-Fla.) said the bill is "not solely" in response to the Hurricane Katrina fallout. "It is the result of the increasing evidence that FEMA should not be hindered by a top-heavy bureaucracy when needed to act swiftly to save lives," he said. Read the story
