Sao Paulo businesses hit by gang attacks
Organised gangs have attacked on police, government facilities and businesses in Sao Paulo , ‘causing havoc in South America 's biggest city for the second straight night’. Commuters also experienced difficulties after several public transport companies refused to run buses due to the incidents. Almost 100 attacks have been carried out on buses, police stations, courthouses, banks, supermarkets, car dealerships and other establishments since Tuesday night, allegedly in response to reports that gang leaders might be moved to a remote federal penitentiary. G8 Summit protests may impact businesses in various cities around the world
Various protest groups are expected to take part in two days of action linked to the upcoming G8 Summit in St Petersburg. On the 14th of July protests are planned for Washington, Manchester, Berlin, Hamburg, and Manila. Environmental groups have called for an ‘International Day of Direct Action’ on July 15th which may impact other cities around the world. Businesses should be aware that should protests attract large numbers of activists there is the potential for disruption.

Major disaster declared for Commonwealth of Virginia
President Bush has declared that a major disaster exists in the Commonwealth of Virginia and has ordered Federal aid to supplement Commonwealth and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding during the period of June 23 to July 6, 2006 . FEMA has named Michael E. Bolch as the Federal Coordinating Officer for Federal recovery operations in the affected area. http://www.fema.gov
