FEMA update on Midwest floods response
FEMA has published an update on federal response to support people and businesses impacted by floods in Iowa, Indiana, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota. More than 11 million residents in these states could be affected by flooding and other weather-related events. Read the update

US major disaster declarations

- Wisconsin
FEMA has announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for the state of Wisconsin to help people and communities recover from the effects of severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding beginning on June 5, 2008, and continuing. Dolph A. Diemont has been named as the federal coordinating officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. http://www.fema.gov/news/event.fema?id=10028

- Montana
FEMA has announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for Montana to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by a severe winter storm during the period of May 1-2, 2008. Terror warning issued for United Arab Emirates
The UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office has updated its advice for British nationals travelling to or resident in the United Arab Emirates. According to the FCO, the risk of a terrorist attack in the emirate has increased and there is currently a high risk. Attacks could be indiscriminate and could happen at any time, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers such as residential compounds, military, oil, transport and aviation interests. New Zealand businesses and consumers urged to save power to prevent future black-outs
An advertising campaign has been launched in New Zealand to encourage power consumers to take all available actions to reduce power consumption. This is necessary to reduce the risk of future rolling power outages. Low water levels are threatening the ability to produce power from hydro-electric sources. http://www.powersavers.co.nz/
