The European Commission has made available aid totalling €162.4 million from the European Union Solidarity Fund to help recovery from the floods that hit regions in England, Northern Ireland and Wales during the summer of 2007. The UK authorities will use the grant to cover part of the cost of emergency measures such as restoring roads, water infrastructure and schools, securing dams, the cost of temporary accommodation and rescue services, or costs that local authorities incurred as they cleaned up disaster-stricken areas.
FEMA has announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for Nebraska to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding during the period of May 22, 2008. The UK Emergency Planning Society elected a new chair at its recent annual general meeting in Torquay. Ian Hoult, who led the Society over the past two years, stepped down as chairman and Marc Beveridge was elected unopposed as his replacement.

The number of organisations using software tools to manage passwords for shared accounts grew 50 percent worldwide in 2007, according to Gartner, making it one of the fastest-growing identity and access management markets. Analysts predict that the shared-account password management (SAPM) market will continue to exhibit strong growth and that more than half of large organisations will use SAPM tools by the end of 2010.
