IBM stepped in recently to provide virtual disaster recovery for the Virtual Worlds Forum Show.
After a shooting at the nightclub that was to host the Virtual Worlds Forum, the facility became a crime scene and the event was homeless. IBM stepped up and offered its Virtual Business Center in Second Life as a refuge for displaced avatars - and the Forum planners accepted.
Kevin Aires, a global web strategist at IBM, quickly set up some space, including some trade stands, and avatars began filing in for virtual coffee. IBM broadcast the event live on-line for those that didn't wish to enter Second Life. Visitors were also able to tour IBM's new Virtual Green Data Center exhibition.
