AT&T
will bring a team of experts to Seattle to conduct a full-scale,
six-day Network Disaster Recovery (NDR) exercise starting on Friday,
February 27th, at 3457 East Marginal Way, Pier 25, south of Seattle.
The exercise falls on the three-year anniversary
of the 6.8 magnitude Nisqually Earthquake that hit the Puget Sound
area and impacted residents and businesses throughout the area.
AT&T maintains a network disaster recovery
team consisting of more than 100 managers, engineers and technicians,
as well as a fleet of more than 150 self-contained equipment-trailers
and support vehicles.
Equipment used in the Seattle exercise
will include:
* Command Center: 53-foot custom-designed and manufactured
semi-trailer that provides 820 square feet of self-contained mobile
command and control space. It has its own onboard generator, telephone
system, local area network (LAN), and other capabilities that provide
an office away from the office.
* Emergency Communications Vehicle: 4-wheel
drive van equipped with two generators, supplemental cooling/heating,
auto-positioning 1.2 metre satellite antenna utilising Ku-Band service,
and automatic vehicle leveling jacks. It is used to provide command
and control communication for recovery from a network disaster as
well as a capability to provide communication for humanitarian relief
efforts. Can provide 192 simultaneous telephone circuits from an
isolated disaster site.
* Network Technology Trailers: Each 53-foot
custom-designed and manufactured semi-trailer contains some of the
same electronics and optics that are used in the worldwide AT&T
Intelligent Network.
