The Director, Business Continuity and Emergency Management is responsible for establishing and maintaining the department's business continuity and emergency management frameworks, ensuring legislative compliance and supporting the management of incidents. You will also provide liaison between the whole-of-government crisis coordination bodies and the department. 

You will lead a small team to deliver the annual business continuity and emergency management work programs.

Job role

  • Ensure that the business continuity management framework is compliant with the Commonwealth Risk Management Policy, relevant legislation, standards and guidelines.   
  • Establish and implement the department’s annual business continuity program to ensure that business continuity plans support the department’s critical functions. 
  • Respond to business disruptions as they occur.
  • Provide support and coordination within the department of whole-of-government arrangements in accordance with the Australian Government Crisis Management Framework.
  • Establish and implement the department’s annual emergency management program to ensure the safety of staff, contractors and visitors attending departmental work sites.
  • Engage in and resolve emergency management issues affecting programs and divisions. 
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships across the organisation; with counterparts in other government departments and at the whole-of-government crisis coordination level.
  • Deliver against annual branch plans that align with organisational business and strategic outcomes. 
  • Provide leadership to Business Continuity and Emergency Management team staff, including coaching, capability development and problem solving.
