'You Say Incident, I Say Event': exploring a challenging term

A new white paper written by the Disaster Recovery Institute’s Glossary Committee looks at the difficulty the committee has experienced in defining the term ‘incident’ and explains why agreeing a definition is important.

DRI’s Glossary Committee was brought together to develop a new reference document that combines the most common business continuity and resilience terms and definitions into a single guide. Most terms were relatively straightforward in their definition, and others required more discussion and analysis by the committee. The analysis of one term, incident, became a long-term discussion, with no consensus reached. In the white paper, ‘You Say Incident, I Say Event – A look at defining a term’, the Glossary Committee discusses how to define ‘incident’ and calls for input from the wider business continuity profession.
