Iron Mountain, the storage and information management company, has announced it has entered the African market with the purchase of a controlling interest in Docufile South Africa, the largest privately owned records management company in South Africa. Iron Mountain purchased 75 percent of Docufile and has taken over the day-to-day operations, with the two companies jointly driving business development in South Africa.

Founded in 1998, Docufile has nine facilities and more than two million cubic feet of storage in South Africa and Lesotho, including Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town, and provides services in Port Elizabeth, East London, Bloemfontein and Nelspruit. Its solutions cover the full information life cycle, from records creation to destruction, and include records management and storage; document imaging and scanning; off-site data storage and hosting; file tracking software; online data backup and restoration; secure shredding; archiving stationary; and training and consulting.

With this acquisition and Iron Mountain’s recent purchase of Archyvu Sistemos in The Baltics, the company now operates in 41 countries and on six continents, expanding its global presence into fast-growing emerging international markets.
