Amazon has announced that the Amazon Aurora Global Database offers organizations new failover options. The Aurora Global Database is a single database that can span up to six AWS Regions, enabling disaster recovery from region-wide outages and low latency global reads.
Amazon says that organizations can now seamlessly change their global cluster’s primary AWS Region, the region that serves writes, while preserving the replication between all regions in the global cluster. With this managed planned failover capability, organizations can repeatedly change which AWS Region hosts the primary cluster while preserving the physical topology of the global database and avoiding unnecessary application changes.
In unplanned disaster recovery situations, organizations can promote any secondary AWS Region to take full read-write responsibilities in under a minute says Amazon.
