Provisional agreement made to create rescEU: a strengthened EU Civil Protection Mechanism

The European Union has moved closer to creating an EU-wide coordinated disaster response capability, called rescEU. rescEU will strengthen the existing EU Civil Protection Mechanism, providing standby resources to respond to floods, wildfires or other incidents which overwhelm national response resources.

On December 12th 2018 the European Parliament and the Council of the EU announced that provisional agreement had been reached to move forward with rescEU. This agreement will have to be formally approved by both institutions.
