Drone (Unmanned Air Systems: UAS) technology has evolved rapidly and the UK is now seeing the development of hostile improvised drone threats to critical infrastructure, events and public establishments; including prisons and major UK airports.

As a result, the UK Government’s Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) has issued a call for research into countering drone threats. DASA is looking for innovative ideas in a range of areas such as sensing technologies, autonomy, Artificial Intelligence and non-lethal effectors which can be harnessed to improve the ability to offer protection against hostile use of drones.

DASA will open a competition for ideas in April 2019 where companies can gain research contracts from a £2 million budget.
