DRI adds new members to Future Vision Committee

The Disaster Recovery Institute’s Future Vision Committee has announced the appointment of senior professionals from Japan, Switzerland and the UK as members of the committee. The new members are Prof. Kenji Watanabe of the Nagoya Institute of Technology; veteran consultant and project manager Dr. Wolfgang Mahr; and Dr. Robert MacFarlane of the Civil Contingencies Secretariat, UK Cabinet Office.

Committee chairman Lyndon Bird said “I am absolutely delighted to have Kenji, Wolfgang and Rob join the committee. I have known all three for many years and their contributions towards thought leadership in our profession makes them highly regarded by their peers.”

“These new members will bring a fresh and exciting perspective to this committee,” said DRI President Al Berman. “It’s the valuable input of experienced professionals like these that led us to develop the Future Vision Committee in the first place, and I look forward to seeing their work.”

Prof. Kenji Watanabe is a professor at the Graduate School of Engineering, and also the Head of Disaster & Safety Management of the Nagoya Institute of Technology, with major research areas in risk management, business continuity management, and critical infrastructure protection (CIP). He has almost 20 years of business experience at the Mizuho Bank and PricewaterhouseCoopers in financial business and risk management fields.

Dr. Wolfgang Mahr has over 20 years of experience in consulting and project management in the ICT environment and over the last 15 years has specialized in the field of business continuity management. He is experienced in IT governance, information security, business management, marketing, account and product management, in professional education as an author of educational content and an international speaker.

Dr. Robert MacFarlane is Assistant Director (UK Resilience Doctrine, Training and Standards) in the Civil Contingencies Secretariat, UK Cabinet Office. He has oversight of the UK Emergency Planning College and leads the program of Central Government Emergency Response Training. He is an OECD expert on crisis management and was one of the principal authors of the UK Joint Emergency Services Doctrine.
