Lessons learned from Australia’s November 2020 ASX Trade outage published

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) and the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) have released a summary of an independent expert review of the 16th November 2020 ASX Trade outage. This occurred shortly after a major upgrade to ASX Trade, ASX's equity trading platform.

IBM Australia Limited was commissioned to conduct the independent expert review, with the remit to examine the project and assess whether it met internationally recognised standards or frameworks and relevant securities industry practices.

Overall, it was found that ASX met or exceeded leading industry practices in a majority of the capabilities assessed. However, several key shortcomings in the project were identified. These included:
