The UK’s National Threat Level has been raised from substantial to Severe – meaning that the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC) believes that an attack is highly likely.
The National Threat Level is determined independently by JTAC and the organization has determined that, following two terrorist incidents in the past month, the threat of another attack somewhere in the UK has risen.
Threat levels are a tool for security practitioners, including the police, to use in determining what protective security response may be required.
The UK was last at Severe in November 2020 before the level was lowered to Substantial in February 2021.
