The Business Continuity Institute, in association with Mimecast, has published the BCI Information Security Report 2017. The report provides a benchmark of how organizations handle sensitive data and how resilient they are when it comes to data protection.
The report presents the results of a survey of 369 organizations in 63 countries worldwide. This looked at the different solutions and key drivers on which organizations build information security.
The results show that top management commitment is pivotal in building information security across the organization. Compliance with legislation alongside organizational policies – such as staff training, company regulation etc. – and financial investment in information security, were also key drivers for information security in organizations.
What stands out the most from the survey is the importance of collaboration. Effective collaboration among management disciplines and teams plays an essential role in tackling information security challenges, but it also helps when building organizational resilience. Therefore, the report concludes, business continuity professionals, with their expertise in dealing with disruption, should engage with related disciplines.
