FEMA requests feedback on National Preparedness Goal

FEMA is coordinating a refresh of the first edition of the US National Preparedness Goal and is seeking comments on proposed updates by April 16th 2015.

Established under Presidential Policy Directive 8: National Preparedness (PPD-8), the first edition of the National Preparedness Goal sets the vision for preparedness as “a secure and resilient Nation with the capabilities required across the whole community to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from the threats and hazards that pose the greatest risk,” and identifies the core capabilities necessary to achieve the Goal.

The refresh of the National Preparedness Goal focuses on discrete, critical content revisions and makes changes based on lessons learned from implementing the Goal, from recent events in the United States, from the findings of the National Preparedness Report and from lessons learned during the development of the National Planning Frameworks and Federal Interagency Operational Plans.

The comment period closes on April 16th at 5:00 PM EDT. Please visit https://www.fema.gov/learn-about-presidential-policy-directive-8 to review proposed updates to the Goal and download the feedback matrix. All comments should be submitted via email to PPD8-Engagement@fema.dhs.gov using the matrix available via the above link.
